I have to keep my promises even if it is just to myself since I am trying to get jiggy with this whole blog thing. Today's painting endeavors helped me to fully realize the difference between using acrylics and oils. So much frustration with the fast drying acrylics. choosing to use them so that the painting would be dry on time to enter it into a contest...since I procrastinated so long...my own fault. The concept is good, but the execution is draining...and perhaps self defeating. I painted the dinosaur which looked too dark then overlayed it with silver to mute it down. The kid is positioned right and finally the plate of ribs is placed properly but the paint slides around and doesn't want to adhere to the canvas.....and mixing the colors on the canvas, which is what I do with the oils is virtually impossible. Ya, I am coming close to giving up, but I will wait till I am closer to the deadline. Then I started tweaking another painting of a piece of cake and it certainly isn't that. I am putting all the blame on the acrylics.....the plastic not so fantastic water diluted paint.
Meanwhile back at Facebook world I viewed photos of an artist in Switzerland whose work was so outstanding I was ready to throw in the paint brush. Man, I am so easily discouraged. things might be different if somebody freakin bought something .... but maybe not. I wouldn't know.
Today I am showing my fancy skull painting. One of those 8x10 canvases....My own design....oil paints, right on.
